After the great physical and mental exertions associated with the composition and successful premiere of his one-hour anti-war ballet "The Last Flower" (after James Thurber), Bertold Hummel retired to the holiday home of his friend Peter Jona Korn in Dorfgastein in August 1975 and composed a whole series of smaller compositions in a cheerful relaxed mood: Piano pieces for children, a piano sonatina, songs based on poems by Theodor Storm and the Romance for Flute and piano, which in its rapturous tone perhaps tells of the starry nights in the Austrian mountain landscape.
