For many years Bertold Hummel conducted an orchestra week for young instrumentalists at the Landvolkshochschule Wies (near Steingaden) at the beginning of the Bavarian summer school holidays. A faithful participant in this event was the clarinettist Hans-Peter Huber. When he was asked to play meditation music at a service, he asked Bertold Hummel if he had a piece for him, whereupon my father put this meditation on paper during his lunch break on 7 August 1979.
